Playin' Catch Up...

Things have been pretty busy here...the mortgage market is crazier than normal and we are getting ready for the October Field Trials; back to back weekends in Roscoe, IL.  Two weeks 1000 miles from home with 14+ dogs is an event that takes some planning.  As I pack for this trip, I am a bit sad, as unless things look up in the markets, these may be my last field trials for some time.  The closest field trials to Denver are these in Roscoe and then the trials in Ladonia, TX.  It's expensive to attend and we have to watch our pennies these days, just like everyone else.

Anyway, back to the news we have delayed posting in the last couple of weeks...

gracchus_tate_dirty_nose_sm.gifGracchus & Payton; Here's A Little Dirt In Your Eye! Tongue out

Last weekend, on the 20th, Payton went to the Grand Junction shows with our friend, Holly Jorgensen.  Holly owns Pippi, who is a smooth CH Reilly x Tania SE, ROMX daughter.  I had some work to do that weekend, so Holly offered to show Tater for me.  Payton, who needed a single point to finish her Championship, went WB/BOW/BOS over a specials bitch to earn a 4 point major to finish under judge David Michael Powers.  So now Payton is officially known as CH Doxikota Payton v Ruger MW!

Even more exciting, because it's been such a long road for Gracchus and his Championship, was Sunday the 21st.  Gracchus has needed only 1 major to finish for such a long time and he finished with 18 major reserves!! So many times SO close!  Gracchus was in Montana with our handler, Monica Lamontagne.  I love to show my own dogs, but Gracchus needed a major and smooth majors have dried up around here in the last year and a half.  I can't afford the money and time away from work to travel to all of the places there were smooth majors, so I decided to send Gracchus with Monica.  This was the third weekend he was out with her and the third time was a charm!  On the last day of the circuit, under judge Dr. Richard Greathouse, Gracchus went WD for a 4 point major to finish his bench championship and become a Dual Champion!  He is now officially DC Sunrise Ruger Gracchus MS, JE!  As soon as we have finishing pix for both Gracchus & Tater, we will share them with everyone. Laughing

The weekend of the 13th and 14th found us at the CDC & RMEC Earthdog Tests in Bellvue, Colorado.  All of the entered dogs did very well and had fun.  Maximus, Ryan and Sidney were all entered in Junior.  Sidney came the closest and probably would have passed on Saturday, except her handler (DUMB ME) forgot to remove her collar before releasing her.  She did pass Intro and will probably follow in the footsteps of her dam, Tania, and her siblings very soon.  Gracchus and Evie were both entered in one test in Senior, but both of them need some work.  Despite having some issues with the indicating portion of the Master test, Tania did get one additional Master leg this weekend and she now only needs one Master leg for her ME title.  However, we think we are going to hold her out until Spring...I think she will do better if we do that and my motto is anything worth having is worth waiting for....

Tania looks to me as if to ask, "Hey Mom, is it okay if I bark at the rats behind this board?"

Sure, babe!

It's almost Sidney's turn in Junior!   Sidney is owned by Shawn Lightfoot from Arvada, CO and is a CH Guinness x Tania SE, ROMX daughter.

Tiny Sidney did a fabulous job in Junior; here I am taking her out of the tunnel

Thanks to AKC rep Barb Teigen for all of these great Earthdog pix!

What a "Doggy" Weekend!
Monday, 08 September 2008 09:13

Wow, but we had fun this weekend!  Family dogs had a clean sweep at the two Evergreen Kennel Club shows in Greeley, CO and we had some good, dirty fun at earthdog practice on Sunday after the breed showing.  Little Ryan stayed behind at the show with our lovely & talented handler, Monica Lamontagne, to show in the Hound Group.  I love to handle my own dogs, but occasionally I don't get to do everything I want to, showing-wise, and that's where Monica comes in.

ryan_adrian_2.gifOn Saturday, under Breeder-Judge Adrian Woodfork, CH Ryan went Best of Variety over 5 other specials.  Evie JE went Winners Bitch/Best of Winners for a four point major.  These are her first points and it was only the second time she's ever been in the ring!  CH Tucker, a DC Maximus son bred by Carol Henning and owned by Ellen Tucker and her daughter, Diana Kershner, went Best Opposite Sex.  Mr. Woodfork had very nice things to say about all these kids.  He told me Evie was "just lovely" and couldn't believe Ryan is only 14 months old while we were taking pictures (thanks to our friend Connie Kogler for the picture on the left).

We stayed in Greeley with our good friends, the Marvins, and had lots of fun playing in the backyard with Skye before the Andy Marvin's "going away" party.  Andy is being transferred to Australia by his company and left this morning.  Daphne and the girls and the dogs won't follow until January.  We will miss them all so much.

On Sunday, our judge was Dr. Richard Meen from Toronto, Canada.  He was a pleasant gentleman who certainly ran us through our paces, carefully considered each dog (multiple times for the specials!) and ultimately awarded Ryan with her second Best of Variety as a "special", Evie with Winners Bitch/Best of Winners for her second four point major, and CH Strauss with Best Opposite Sex.  Strauss-Mouse was bred by our dear friend Pam Bethke and is shown and trained by his young owner/handler, Kassey Hill.  Strauss' sire, CH Boot, and Ryan's dam, CH Mali, are littermates and their grandsire is Am/Can CH Grandgables Blond Beach Boy MS, ROMX.  Beachy is also Tania's sire so he is grandsire or great-grandsire to everyone here at Ruger.

So then, with Ryan's BOV win, we had a dilemma...did we go ahead with earthdog practice at Rist Canyon or stay for groups?  Pam had the answer...hire a handler and thankfully, Monica was without a hound in the group.  Monica said Ryan did very well for a youngster left with a stranger and that she stood on the table like a rock and showed beautifully.  So we went and played earthdog in the Canyon with Kassey & Strauss and our other friends, Sarah & Kelso (the earthdog wannabe border collie).  The weather was absolutely beautiful and it was really the perfect end to a pretty perfect weekend.

Ball Lust is the Name of the Game in This House
Sunday, 24 August 2008 14:11

Miss Evie-Sneaky is, well, oh-so-sneaky about what she wants:

evie_ball_sneak_1.gif evie_ball_sneak_2.gif

Into the tack box to get her coveted prize, which is a felted wool ball.  She was very serruptitious about it.  Balls are the MITs here...Most Important Toys.  I always wanted Dachshunds who loved ball.  All I have learned from that wish is that I should be careful what I wish for!  LOL!  It's ball 24/7 here.  And it would be okay, except I have dogs who are supersonic about ball, especially Evie.  If the Primary Ball (PB) is being thrown or is up for grabs, her barking will split your ears.  We are working on bringing that down a few notches!  Her dam, Tania, will bark for hours if I let her.  Tania always wants the PB, which is usually whatever ball Gracchus is playing with.  She, Gracchus, and Payton will only play with the PB.  They are not swayed by SBs (Secondary Balls), even if they are the exact same brand/size as the current PB.  Evie, Ryan and Maximus definitely can be lured by SBs, but Evie really, truly wants to have the PB, even though she is willing to be temporarily courted by the imposters.  The PB is always different, depending on who started the game.  This game was all Evie, as you can see.

Don't feel too sorry for the ball stalkers; Maximus and Gracchus in the foreground of the first three pix; Maple in the backgound of all four pix, and Tania in the background of the fourth.  They all definitely get their share of ball time...this just happened to be Evie's day and she just loves to have the PB; everyone's object of desire.  :)  Maple is a FC Gracchus JE ex CH Lydia daughter bred by Pam.  Maple is visiting while her owners, Dave and Anna, are getting married in Michigan.

Fancy Miss Ryan...
Wednesday, 16 July 2008 16:35

ryan_finish_crop_small.jpgHere is Ryan, (CH Delaney v Ruger Thx 2 Doxikota; DC Maxmius v Ruger MW ex CH Doxikota Mali-Boo Barbie MS), finishing her Championship the day before her 1st birthday. She went WB/BOW/BOS over the standard special who had finished the day before.  She also won Best BBE and snagged a Bred By Exhibitor Group 3 that day.  We are so pleased with this much for not being in a hurry to finish her! She is the 7th Champion for her sire, Maximus, in the calendar year from June 2007 - June 2008. She is also his first bitch Champion, though there are other Maximus daughters who are majored pointed.

We will show her as a Special here and there until she is grown up, at which time we will evalute her potential as a 'real' Special...she's such a gorgeous and correct mover, but she still has a lot of growing up to do.

Besides, her 'Warrior Princess' side is jonesin' for some rats and rabbits! Go, Ryan!
